| While
I am not hugely into the Olympics, I do pay attention when I know one
of the athletes. Four years ago, that athlete was modern pentathlete
Donna Vakalis. This year, it's...modern pentathlete Donna Vakalis.
Donna's Olympic journey was, in 2012, documented in West of Bathurst, though her name there was Dana Kavalis (subtle, I know). While it's harder to fit her into the It Never Rains
story line, I can certainly do a little series of single
modern-pentathlon-themed panels, and Barbara, who knows Dana, will
happily drag her into the story. The panels will be posted under this
week's comics (Monday through Saturday) and will also have their own
page, which will contain both the panels and links to news stories
about Donna. Modern pentathlon is one of the weirder Olympic sports, and that is what makes it cool. You can read the 2012 West of Bathurst Olympics series here. |

Panel 1: Rose is back in July, sending Past Rose off to March. Past Rose is sitting on her bed. Rose: Well, good luck! Past Rose: Your honesty is bracing. Panel 2: Past Rose is gone. Rose stands alone in the room. Rose [thinks]: Okay. Past me has gone back to March, leaving behind the fullest version of the notebook. Panel 3: Rose [thinks]: That's it, then. I've completed the super-complex time loop. Panel 4: Rose lies on her back on her bed. Rose [thinks]: And I have no clue what's going to happen next. Rose [thinks]: I think I'll stay in bed for a year. Special Olympics 2016 Panel Panel 1: Rose and Barbara walk across the park, Iz behind them. Barbara: I know one of this year's Olympians: Dana Kavalis, a modern pentathlete. You should watch the events with me. They last two days and are super confusing. Rose: Hurrah! Go to commentary |
