Panel 1: We are back in Rose's imagination. She is once again seeing herself as a character in a hardboiled detective story. She stands in a grimy office, pondering. Narration Box: The case was coming together, but it was also falling apart. Panel 2: Rose-as-detective hunts through some papers on a desk. Narration Box: Slowly but surely, the puzzle pieces had accumulated...yet there seemed no way to slot them together into a coherent picture. Panel 3: Rose-as-detective looks sidelong at Iz-as-detective's-assistant, who is also pondering. Narration Box: It didn't help that my bumbling sidekick had been sniffing around, putting together his own vastly inferior but still vaguely worrying puzzle. Panel 4: Iz and Rose are walking through the park. Iz: We need to talk, don't we? Rose: ...said the bumbling sidekick, driving unexpectedly to the heart of the matter. Go to commentary |
