I've entered CBC's Searchlight Competition again this year. Basically, it's American Idol, except Canadian and on the radio. You submit a song, people vote on the song, some of the songs make it to the second round, and eventually, someone wins $20,000 worth of equipment, amongst other things. My stuff isn't particularly professional, but I'm entering anyway for kicks. I do think my song is eventually going to end up disqualified, as it contains a naughty word, and the rules prohibit "obscene" content, but I'm still amused by the idea of sending a song mocking Canadian literary fiction to the CBC. The song is called "CanLit." If you would like to vote for it every day (starting on the 30th), hurrah! If you wouldn't, hurrah! If you want another option, check out Debs and Errol's entry, "Locked." Also, hurrah! (You get to vote for up to ten songs a day, incidentally.)

The song is actually a harbinger of my new CD, which will itself, with luck, be a harbinger of the West of Bathurst collection. It's harbingers all the way down.

Panel 1: Jacqueline and Rose are talking outside the mysterious house to which Maggie had been pointing. Rose has just stumbled into a tree.

Rose: Holy Toledo, there's a tree right here.

Jacqueline: Will you stop pretending to be blind?

Panel 2:

Rose: Blindness isn't a zero-sum game, monkey breath. Also, in case you hadn't noticed, I've lost my glasses, meaning that I'm now myopic and have a visual field the size of a postage stamp.

Panel 3:

Rose: I would rather not have to kick you in the leg again, so could we get past the bit where you bully me? It's kind of inconvenient at the moment.

Panel 4:

Jacqueline: I hate you.

Rose: I understand completely.
