1) If you're looking for the actual Wednesday comic, click on "Previous." This long comic is an extra piece in honour of my friends Jennifer Konieczny and Andrew House's first anniversary.

About a month ago, Jen approached me for help in creating House's gift, which she needed to fit the traditional "paper" theme. I and some others from an old writing group contributed stories and (in my case) comics revolving around the theme of what Jennifer described as "love/marriage/other mushy stuff (but it wouldn't have to be mushy)." Jen wanted to bind them together into a sort of anniversary miscellany. I had just a few things to do this September, oddly, so I started the comic later than I should have and was able to send Jen only a black-and-white version. I did, however, promise to publish a colour version here today.

The comic itself is pure Rose; the man and woman portrayed here look absolutely nothing like Jen and House, who are not generally schmoopy in public. However, it is love themed and possibly even slightly less cynical than much of the stuff I create.

House and Jen, you are the best (and geekiest) married couple ever, despite the fact that you don't currently live in the same city or even the same country. I was sorry I couldn't make it to your wedding; I am happy to be able to contribute to this anniversary gift. May the Force be with you...always.

2) The West of Bathurst Kickstarter is streeeeeeeetching its way towards the $8,500 stretch goal and a month's worth of daily It Never Rains comics. It's currently sitting at $8,152.

Thanks for all your support thus far. The campaign ends on Friday, October 3rd at 8:55 p.m.

Panel 1:

Title: It Never Rains Presents..."The Power of Love," by Kari Maaren.

A young man and woman walk through a park together, approaching Rose, who is sitting on a bench, reading a book.

Man: I love you.

Woman: I love you.

Panel 2:

Man: I love you.

Woman: I love you.

Man: No, I love you.

Woman: But I love you.

Panel 3:

Man: I love you.

Woman: I love you.

Man: I love you!

Woman:
I love you!

Panel 4:

Rose: I love you.

Panel 5: Rose gets up off the bench.

Man: Excuse me?

Rose: I love you.

Man: You...love me?

Rose: Not really, but I thought I would help.

Panel 6:

Woman: Help with what?

Rose: Isn't it obvious?

Panel 7:

Rose: There's clearly some reason you're screaming repetitive terms of endearment at each other in a park. So I thought about it.

Panel 8:

Rose: At first, I figured it was code, which meant you were spies, and one of you had forgotten the countersign.

Panel 9:

Rose: Then I thought you had to be futuristic robots tragically limited by a flaw in your programming.

Panel 10:

Rose: But that didn't seem right either. Next, I wondered about the possibility that one of you was dead, and the other was attempting to keep you around via the power of love.

Panel 11:

Rose: Once I'd thought of that, I felt it was the most logical solution, and I decided to join my will to yours and aid you in your attempt to thwart the forces of entropy.

Panel 12:

Man: We weren't doing any of those things. We were just saying "I love you."

Rose: Really?

Panel 13:

Rose: Well, that's disappointing, If you'll excuse me, I'll just go off and mourn for the loss of mystery and imagination in this too-predictable world.

Panel 14: Rose leaves. The man and woman stare after her.

Panel 15:

Man: I love you?

Woman: Not really doing it for me any more, thanks.
